Wintersport im Berchtesgadener Land, in der AMBER RESIDENZ Bavaria in Bad Reichenhall

Winter Sports

Although the joys of winter have undergone significant changes in their appearance over time, the core of our enthusiasm for the white splendour of snow has stood fast, right up to the present day. Like a multitude of other winter sports activities, sledging or Bavarian Curling in the municipality of Schönau am Königssee boast a long tradition. In fact, in as early as the era of the Prince Regents, gathering at the Lake Königssee to eagerly swing some ice stocks or to enjoy a speedy sliding adventure down the hillside were popular pastimes.

Activities for the Entire Family

The German town of Bad Reichenhall and its neighbouring municipality of Bayerisch Gmain offer visitors wonderful opportunities to enjoy the delights of winter to the full. Whether it's a hike or an alpine ski trip down the local Predigtstuhl Mountain, snowshoeing through the untouched landscape or going sledging, these locations offer a wide variety of winter activities for young and old alike!

Alpine Skiing

Bad Reichenhall is an ideal starting point for skiing activities thanks to its central location among some of the most stunning skiing regions in the "Berchtesgadener Land" and "Salzburger Land" districts (e.g. the villages of Flachau and Zauchensee, the towns of Filzmoos and Saalfelden or the Dachstein-Tauern region).

You can also participate in guided skiing tours for free as part of the active programme. On top of this, the municipality of Bayerisch Gmain offers guests a free cross-country skiing course on the "Gmainer Loipen" cross-country ski runs upon presentation of their guest card. The other areas of the "Berchtesgadener Land" district are also home to an abundance of extensive cross-country ski runs, for example Aschauer Weiher, Rossfeld, Schwarzeck, Schneizlreuth and Weißbach an der Alpenstrasse.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Despite its long history, skiing has maintained its unique charm and allure right into the present day. Even nowadays, the moment you reach the top of the slope you will experience that typical goosebump feeling as you enjoy the view over the sparkling snow crystals of the mountain landscape. It's simply a dream in white. After a short pause, it's time to sweep down the mountain and into the valley. This same exhilarating feeling is, of course, also available to snowboarders!

Once your sporting activities out in the clear mountain air have made your cheeks rosy red, you can head back to one of the traditional mountain cabins for a relaxing break. Once your skiing and snowboarding day has come to an end, you can then return to the AMBER RESIDENZ Bavaria, exhausted but happy, and enjoy some culinary treats and dream of your next excursion into the winter mountain wonderland.

Snowboarding fans will be pleased to hear that Götschen is also considered to be Germany's snowboarding paradise!

Freeriding
Freeriding is the modern form of off-piste skiing and ranges from mogul skiing through to downhill runs through powder snow in steep landscapes. Ski Touring in the "Berchtesgadener Land" District

Ski Mountaineering - Sport with a Close Connection to Nature
The terms ski mountaineering and ski touring are used to describe the activity of ascending mountains on skis and descending them on prepared trails and even off the beaten track. The first ski tours took place at the end of the 19th century. Due to a lack of lifts, all excursions at the beginning of the 20th century were also still carried out in the form of ski tours.

In fact, ski mountaineering is still an extremely popular activity nowadays thanks to its high level of sustainability and environmental friendliness. Descents in fresh powder snow are particularly valued by ski mountaineers, but please ensure that you always consider the potential danger of avalanches and pay attention to avalanche bulletins and warnings and snow cover reports.

You can, of course, also learn the basics of ski mountaineering in Berchtesgaden! In a four hour course, state-certified mountain and ski guides will show you the ropes of ski mountaineering in the first ever ski touring park in the Alps.

Winter Hiking

Hiking through Air as Clear as Glass and Snow-Covered Forests
The mountains surrounding the Bavarian spa resort will dazzle you with their sparkling snow-white coating and are a constant companion that can always been seen during our idyllic hikes through the "Berchtesgadener Land" district. Snowshoeing

Natural experiences away from crowded slopes or perfectly prepared ski runs are an excellent winter sports alternative, even if you're not a skiing fan! Unlike other winter sports, snowshoeing can be carried out on practically any terrain, as long as it isn't too steep... Sport-Mueller.com »
