Düsseldorf
It’s common knowledge that Düsseldorf has the reputation of being the “longest bar in the world”. Nevertheless, you really need to see the historic city centre of Düsseldorf to believe it, with its over 250 breweries, pubs and restaurants in the streets and lanes between the River Rhine and the “Kö”, the “Königsallee” boulevard, providing an experience that can’t be topped. The "Bergisches Land" Region
This region is situated very close to the Rhineland area, which is actually rather flat. Nevertheless, the Bergisches Land contains the ups and downs common of mountainous terrain and reaches heights of up to 500m above sea level in some parts. The “Bergisches Land” region, which is located between the Rhine, Ruhr and Wupper rivers, actually obtained its name from the Dukes of the Duchy of Berg and not from its hilly and mountainous landscape, which could be inferred from the German word “bergig”, meaning mountainous. It has been a natural park since 1973 and has an abundance of castles and palaces for you to explore, as well as its interesting countryside and residents. Whether you choose to come on foot, by bicycle, in your own car or using the bus or train services, this region not only offers a stunning environment but also many other attractions, for example the Dripstone Cave of Wiehl and the Alte Dombach Paper Museum.
Cologne
Cologne Cathedral is still Germany's most frequently visited landmark! The cultural metropolis on the River Rhine also attracts millions of guests every year thanks to the Cologne Carnival, the "Fastlovend". The city that we now know as Cologne was founded by the Romans over 2000 years ago, when it was called "Colonia" ('colony'). In fact, the entire city is still home to a multitude of fascinating traces of its Roman past today. It also offers its visitors a wide range of cultural attractions such as musicals, museums, Cologne Zoo and the city's famous "Kölsch" beer.
Hilden
Hilden is the fourth largest city in the Mettmann district between the major German cities of Düsseldorf, Cologne and Wuppertal. It is located at the foot of the "Bergisches Land" region and offers far more than just an attractive pedestrian area with several shopping passages. Hilden is a shopping paradise and much, much more! The city is also well known for its multitude of festivals, celebrations and attractive events. On top of all this, the city is, of course, also home to important infrastructures such as sport and leisure facilities, in particular the water parks "Hildorado" and "Waldbar", which are well known both in Hilden and further afield. As if that wasn't enough, Hilden is even easily accessible from Düsseldorf Airport thanks to a handy "S-Bahn" suburban train connection. The city is additionally surrounded by motorways on three sides, meaning that you only need to travel a maximum of three kilometres to reach the nearest motorway or dual carriageway slip road. Thanks to its excellent location on the A3/A46 motorway interchange (known as the "Hildener Kreuz"), Hilden boasts excellent transport connections to the trade fair and exhibition venues in the cities of Düsseldorf and Cologne.
